Tune in for the live telecast of the annual awards ceremony which takes place at the Shrine Auditorium in
Los Angeles, CA with host Jamie Foxx (picture above), Oscar winning actor and Grammy winning singer.
What time does the 2009 BET Awards start? At 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET. The program will be tape delayed for West Coast broadcast.
In the aftermath of the June 25, 2009 death of Michael Jackson, BET chairman and CEO Debra L. Lee has confirmed that the broadcast will pay tribute to the legendary performer and honor the musical genius and legacy of the King of Pop in the aftermath of his sudden death at age 50.
“Michael’s influence is felt every day in so many ways at BET Networks, and it’s been that way throughout our network’s entire 29-year history,” she said. “We watched him grow up and, like everyone around the world, he feels like he is a member of our family.
“He will be missed more than we can say … but his legend and memory live on in the artists, musicians, producers, dancers, fans and everyone else who looks to him for inspiration.”
Among the music artists who are confirmed to perform at the 2009 BET Awards; Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, Fabolous, Soulja Boy, Keyshia Cole and Mary Mary. Additional performers include Kanye West, Queen Latifah, and Keri Hilson. There may also be surprise musical guests.
Others expected to make appearances as presenters and/or performers: Snoop Dogg, Anthony Anderson, Paula Patton, Estelle, LeToya Luckett, Nichelle Nichols, Keke Palmer, Ray J, Ving Rhames, Zoe Saldana Tyra Banks, Taraji P. Henderson, Idris Elba, Sherri Shepherd, and Marlon Wayans.
Additionally, the legendary soul trio, the O’Jays (Love Train, For the Love of Money) will receive the 2009 BET Lifetime Achievement Award by presenters Tyrese, Trey Songz and Johnny Gill. Alicia Keys and WyClef Jean will receive the 2009 BET Humanitarian Award.
The annual event is always very lavish, with many luminaries from the entertainment world appearing in BET red carpet photos.
