No lip-syncing, no headset microphone, just her real voice. That’s what fans got a taste of at a recent show—and it was surprisingly good. The show was part of the Circus tour, which is making it’s second round through North America, and has been getting good reviews.
Could Britney be back? It sure seems like it. Even in a nation where we seem to get our jollies watching stars fall, people began to feel sympathy for her. From disturbing allegations that her manager had been drugging her, to having her children removed from her custody, it was getting out of hand.
In 2007, anticipation began to build when she was given the opening spot at the VMA’s, but her bungled performance seemed to pull her back under. Fans began to doubt that she could continue, and stories began to circulate that her contractual obligations could be too much for her to handle. She finally began to claw her way back up when he father was given legal authority over her affairs.
With her new album Circus, Britney Spears does appear to be on the right track. The one thing she is still harshly criticized for is lip-syncing. One reason most people cite is that she does complex dance routines, making it difficult to sing at the same time. So it makes sense that in her cover of You Oughta Know, she pretty much holds still.
The video is obviously shot by a fan, and her back is turned to the camera for the first half of the song (the show is done in the round). Her voice doesn’t sound half bad, and other than her typical over-emphasis of certain syllables, she pulls off a pretty nice cover. The concert footage has been one the most viewed on Youtube for a few days now.
