Could the whole Jon and Kate Plus 8 circus get any juicier? Who needs soap operas when you have people willing to play out their real life dramas for the world to see in Reality TV shows. You too can be on the cover of tabloids and have much ballyhooed appearances on ‘Good Morning America’, for a price. What a heavy price some pay for that. Case in point, Jon and Kate Gosselin.
TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 has degenerated into a paparazzi frenzy. Not because we are watching a set of parents struggling to raise eight adorable children, but because the parents are playing out their marital problems, parents skills (or lack thereof) and the blood sport of divorcing in front of television cameras.
Jon Gosselin appeared on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ this morning and bemoaned the fact that he has gone from being ‘America’s favorite dad to dirt-bag’. He whined about the publicity the Gosselin divorce is getting (while on national television, mind you) and that he’d like to go back to being ‘America’s favorite dad’. During his interview with Chris Cuomo, he also managed to sling some mud at his soon to be former wife. He speculated about whether or not she had an affair with her bodyguard and stated, ‘I despise her’, claiming she acted differently in front of the cameras than she does in private. Well, duh!
Both Jon and Kate Gosselin speak about how they do what they do for the children, yet they continue to make the rounds of television shows, product endorsements and continue to do their Reality show in spite of having to do it separately because they can’t stand being in the same room together. Kate’s response to Jon’s GMA interview was a statement about keeping their private life private for the children.
While I certainly have a very different perception of how our marriage dissolved, for the sake of my children I maintain that I’m not going to go into details of aspects I believe should remain private.
When Cuomo gave Jon a chance to give a message to Kate he responded with, ‘Stop feeding into the frenzy’. Even as he was in the midst of his own nationally televised interview. The frenzy will undoubtedly keep being fed by both parties as long as the magazines are being bought, the product endorsements are being offered and the checks keep coming in. And now, Jon Gosselin has told the world that he despises his wife, recorded forever for posterity, prosperity and for their children to see.
So where are the eight Gosselin children in all of this bloodletting between their parents? You tell me.
