The indie pop-rock duo from Brooklyn, New York, Matt and Kim have had success with their breakout single Daylight. Now DJ Troublemaker has remixed the single in a new version that features hip-hop pioneers De La Soul. Keep reading and find out more about the exciting collaboration.
The group Matt and Kim (photos above) is comprised of vocalist and keyboardist Matt Johnson and drummer and vocalist Kim Schifino. Daylight is the lead single of their sophomore studio album Grand, released in January 2009 and it was their first single to place on the Billboard 100, peaking at No. 95 while the album peaked at No. 170 on the Billboard 200. The song received additional exposure through its inclusion in a Bacardi commercial.
DJ Troublemaker has previously remixed music of artists from a gamut of genres, notably Johnny Cash and Peter, Bjorn and John. De La Soul is a Grammy Award winning hip hop group who rose to prominence with their landmark 1989 debut album “3 Feet High and Rising” known for pioneering lyricism and a wide range of sampling from Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, the Monkees, James Brown, Ray Charles among many others.
The Daylight DJ Troublemaker Remix featuring De La Soul is now available on iTunes. The exciting new remix will be included in the video game EA Sports NBA Live 2010, which will be available online and in stores on October 6, 2009.
Regarding the collaboration, DJ Troublemaker said:
“Words cannot describe the amount of happiness this song brings me.
“I consider De La Soul to be the greatest group in the history of hip hop. And, growing up and getting into music production, never did I think I would have the opportunity to work with them. Well, all that changed with this here remix.
“EA asked me to remix Matt and Kim’s “Daylight” for NBA Live 10, and have an emcee, or emcees, bless it. Through rapid global file sharing while on tour in Australia, and the blood, sweat and tears of our camps, we have this record to share with y’all.”
Matt and Kim recently performed Daylight on Jimmy Kimmel Live (video below) on August 26, 2009. The their spirited live performance on national television has brought them further attention in recent days. The duo are presently touring. Here is the list of fall 2009 tour dates:
