Celebrities definitely have a way with words, and they always seem to feel the need to weigh in on serious issues. But sometimes, the things they say BECOME the serious issue. Check out 10 of my favorite funny celebrity quotes here.
Coming in at #10, is the one and only Arnold Swarzenegger. At least he has an excuse for discussing societal problems being that he’s he governor of California. For this bit, I’m going to leave out some of my favorite quotes of his from movies, like “…get your ass to Mars,” or “…what happened to numbah five?!” Instead we’ll focus on the real Arnold. He was commenting on the gay marriage issue that has been debated on a national level lately, and here’s what he came up with:
“I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and woman.”
The #9 spot is reserved for Miss Britney Spears. I must say, I do feel guilty including her in this list now that she is starting to make a come back. It’s good to see her doing well and having such a successful tour. BUT, the girl seems like she needs a little help with geography. This one’s a two-fer, here goes:
“I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like eating fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.”
AND
“The cool thing about being famous is traveling. I have always wanted to travel across seas, like to Canada and stuff.”
Brooke Shields takes the #8 spot. She is actually a pretty well spoken person, as you may have noticed when she gave a heart-felt speech at Michael Jackson’s memorial this year. This quote though, couldn’t be passed up. She was trying to warn America’s youth about dangers of smoking—at least her heart was in the right place!
“Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life.”
Lucky #7 goes to Tara Reid. Back when Jessica Simpson was on the Newlyweds reality show with her ex-hubby Nick Lacey, people couldn’t get over some of the funny things she would say. Tara Reid felt the need to weigh in on Jessica’s intelligence, saying:
“I make Jessica Simpson look like a rock scientist.”
Next up, at #6, is Christina Aguilera. She’s got one of the best voices in the world in my humble opinion. I have plenty of respect for her being that she managed to keep her head on straight after growing up in the spotlight. Plenty of others haven’t had such luck, but this quote earned her a spot in the funny celebrity quotes countdown. When asking about the legendary film festival held in France, she asked:
“So, where’s the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?”
At #5, the one and only David Hasselhoff. Anyone who watches America’s Got Talent knows that he speaks from the heart. Sometimes his analysis of contestant’s performances are a little quirky, but it makes him easy to relate to. This quote wins him major points in the ironic category:
“I’ve got taste. It’s inbred in me.”
The #4 quote is one that most people are familiar with already, but it would be just plain wrong to leave it off of the list. Let’s face it, Paris Hilton probably doesn’t need to shop at discount retailers. I do have to give her credit because I recently saw her on TV adopting a kitty from the animal shelter rather than paying lots of money for one from a breeder. You go Paris! But, once again, this quote can’t be left off of the list:
“What’s Wal-Mart? Do they sell, like wall stuff?”
The #3 spot surprises me quite a bit. I have to say, the woman behind this quote is normally very dignified and professional. Ivanka Trump, who has taken on a major role in her father’s various business ventures is certainly no dummy. But this comment earned her a prime spot on the list:
“Fiction writing is great. You can make up almost anything.”
And at the #2 position is Jessica Simpson. Some of the funniest quotes have been attributed to her, but I’m only making room for one of them on the list. After some tabloids began to point out that she may be having some weight issues, here’s what she had to stay about her home state:
“I’m not anorexic. I’m from Texas. Are there people from Texas that are anorexic? I’ve never heard of one. And that includes me.”
It didn’t take too much extra thought to decide who takes #1. It’s going to Mariah Carey for her statement about famine in Africa. I’m guessing it was an attempt at humor, but it came out ALL wrong. Here’s what she had to say about the issue:
“Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can’t help but cry. I mean I’d love to be skinny like that but not with all those flies and death and stuff.”
